50 Movie Death Scenes That Left You TRAUMATISED

38. Sandra Brody - Godzilla

Godzilla
Warner Bros.

When Godzilla kicked off the MonsterVerse in 2014, it came with a few surprises. The major one being that, in spite of how heavily he was featured in the marketing, Bryan Cranston was not the lead of the movie. Instead, he was killed off relatively early on, with his son, Ford (played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson) taking over as protagonist.

However, this was not the most shocking death in the film. The most surprising possibly, but in terms of sheer brutality and emotion, it is Joe's wife who takes that particular crown.

Joe (Cranston) and Sandra (Juliette Binoche) worked together at a Japanese nuclear facility, and upon seeing readings of unusual seismic patterns, Sandra was sent with a team to investigate. While down there, a tremor from the titular King of the Monsters caused a breach that if not contained would have killed an immeasurable number of people.

For Sandra, this was a horrifying death, as who knows exactly what such radiation would have done to her before she died. But this was traumatic for the audience as they saw it through her husband's eyes. It was the panic-stricken Joe who was forced to shut the blast doors, ensuring the radiation stayed contained, but also condemning his wife to a certain death he could only watch through the glass.
