48. Boromir - The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
From the moment Sean Bean's Boromir appeared on the screen in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, he was something of an odd one out. He wanted to use the Ring's power against Sauron, and though it was said Ring that ultimately corrupted him, he was suspicious from the start.
This came to a head when he attempted to steal the Ring from Frodo (Elijah Wood) and lashed out at the Hobbit. But this was not who Boromir really was.
There were glimpses of his true nature throughout their journey, as he trained and even laughed with the Hobbits, and genuinely tried to help the group with an offer to take them to Gondor. However, it wasn't until he came to the aid of Merry and Pippin (Dominic Monaghan and Billy Boyd) while under attack from the Orcs that audiences arguably got to see him for who he truly was: as much a hero as any of the nine companions.
Boromir died bravely defending the lives of his friends, and even after multiple arrows to the body, he would not stay down. It took a colossal effort to defeat him, and with his final words to Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen), that he would have followed him as his King, his loss was truly felt. It wasn't until it was too late that the man Boromir was could be fully appreciated.
