If you're talking about traumatising movie deaths, it's impossible not to mention Ridley Scott's Alien.

After a run-in with a potential alien lifeform that seriously endangered the life of one of their members, Kane (John Hurt), the crew of the Nostromo settles down for dinner.

What follows can be described as nothing short of cinematic royalty. Seemingly recovered and enjoying his food, Kane began to choke. Moments later, audiences were introduced to the Xenomorph for the first time, as the creature bursts from Kane's chest in a fountain of blood and scurries out of frame.

This wasn't just scarring for those in the cinema, but for the rest of the actors as well, as they had no idea what they were about to see and be a part of. This was terrifying back in the seventies, and is still terrifying today.
