50 Movie Death Scenes That Left You TRAUMATISED
19. Aunt May - Spider-Man: No Way Home
It would take a lot to top the death of Gwen Stacey in a Spider-Man film, but here we are. All three cinematic Peter Parkers lost their Uncle Ben, but while Tom Holland's MCU iteration didn't suffer this on screen, audiences had to watch him lose his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) as well.
May was of course an integral part not only of Peter's life, but of the franchise on the whole. It was unthinkable that anything would happen to her, as Peter had already lost so many people so close to him, but what better way to cement just how detestable the Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe) was?
Of all the villains in the film, Norman Osborne was unsurprisingly the best, and though it was disappointing he didn't interact with Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker properly, he upped the stakes for Tom Holland's by not only killing Aunt May, but by making light of it afterwards.
The moments after the explosion, just before May passed were arguably the best of both Tomei and Holland in the franchise, as their connection could truly be felt through their goodbye. This is where the writers chose to impart the iconic "with great power" line, something that added even more weight to the moment and the loss.
