50 Movie Death Scenes That Left You TRAUMATISED

Alfred Hitchcock is widely regarded as one of the greatest directors of all time, a reputation that is more than justified thanks to the likes of Vertigo, North by Northwest, and of course Psycho, the latter producing one of the most famous scenes in the history of the medium - as well as one of the most traumatic.

As Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) calmly showered in her room at the Bates Motel, she was viciously attacked, enduring multiple stabbings before succumbing to her wounds. This may seem relatively tame in terms of gore compared to some of the other horror entries on this list, but there is a reason the scene is as famous and influential as it is 60-plus years later - it was a total revelation of violence and terror.

Add to that the iconic score, the fact that this was happening to the supposed lead character, who you'd be forgiven for thinking had some sort of plot armour, and the actual violence taking place off-screen, leaving it up to those watching to visualise it themselves, and you're left with the Master of Suspense's most horrifying sequence.
