50 Movies Where Evil Won

10. Megan Is Missing

Avengers Infinity War Spider Man
Anchor Bay

Plot: High-school student Amy (Amber Perkins) tries to find her best friend Megan (Rachel Quinn), who disappeared after meeting up with a boy she met online.

Director Michael Goi created this low-budget found-footage horror as a cautionary tale about online safety, and to say he went all-out in hammering this message home would be a dramatic understatement. He crafted a film so messed-up it went viral on TikTok back in 2020, and it's likely that many people who have seen it wish they hadn't.

Megan Is Missing is relatively grounded for the first hour, before protagonist Amy is kidnapped by the same predator who abducted Megan. Then, the harrowing final 20 minutes consist of Amy being brutalized and abused by the mysterious killer, who finally buries her alive in a barrel containing Megan's brutalized corpse. The man then walks off into the night, free to continue his sickening crimes.

Well... that's one way to warn people about the dangers of meeting strangers online, I guess.

An ending where evil won was always going to be beneficial for putting the movie's message across, although it's arguable that it all went too far into exploitative territory. Due to just how brutal Megan Is Missing is, many people won't be able to stomach it, meaning that the film's intended point is unlikely to be heard by many. There's a line, and this movie definitely crossed it.
