1. Emanuelle In America (1977)
The most infamous and most perverted entry into Joe D'Amato's Black Emanuelle canon, Emanuelle in America is a terrific film, but has very strong content. This time Gemser is trotting around the globe picking up scandalous stories. She infiltrates a rich man's harem, goes to an orgy held by Venetian diplomats and spies some action from an all male brothel that is there to satisfy the perverted whims of the female clients. Emanuelle has lots of sex along the way, everyone has lots of sex in fact - mostly very depraved encounters. There are lots of hardcore inserts which are not very sexy it has to be said. But they do fascinate because they just add to the snigger factor of the film. There are shots of a woman jerking of a horse with a massive penis. What that is supposed to achieve is anyone's guess - probably just D'Amato throwing it in to shock google eyed viewers. A truly shocking part of the film contains (simulated but very nasty) snuff film footage. Emanuelle is not a chicken and she sets out to explore the snuff ring.... And then goes on holiday with her hubby. Laura Gemser seems to be perkier than usual in this offering, she frequenly sheds her clothes and takes risks to get the scoop. A lot of people find Emanuelle in America quite dull due to the non stop sex and lack of plot - but having non stop dodgy sex is Emanuelle's vocation. To complain about her having sex is like shouting at Lassie for barking! Personally I enjoyed the sex scenes because they are so far out there and kinky (a Tarzan and Jane roleplay anyone?). The snuff scene is actually worse than Pasolini's Salo in terms of strong content, but I thought that it made the film more interesting - Emanuelle versus the Snuff Pedlars! She can take them all down herself. What a woman!
