6 Deleted Scenes From 2013 Movies That Would Have Changed Everything

3. Tony Sort Of Dies/Harley Saves Him - Iron Man 3

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wq7TWooGIk There were actually a lot of scenes in the original Iron Man 3 script that didn't make it into the movie (including one where Pepper Potts combats diseases in Africa using soda vending machines - don't ask), and although most of them weren't filmed, some were. A series of scenes were shot for Iron Man 3, in fact, which depicted Tony's kid sidekick, Harley, going up against the bully he talks about in the final cut of the movie, E.J. The delete scenes follow a plot strand where E.J. basically ends up almost drowning, and Harley ends up pulling him to safety. That's where Tony comes in, who brings E.J. back to life using some of his technical wizardry, before he suddenly faints or sort of dies (it's unclear what happens). Harley knows what to do, however, and replaces Tony's Arc Reactor (missing from his chest at this point), bringing him back to life. It's understandable, of course, given how jam-packed the movie was with plot points already, that E.J. found himself cut. Also: he's a douche. Tony going "dead" here is far more weighty, however, and including it might've changed the tone of the movie fairly dramatically. Should It Have Stayed In The Movie? I'm not convinced that any of this really adds anything to Iron Man 3 that isn't inherent to it in other places. Besides, do we really need another stereotypical bully character? Interestingly, however, there's a bully in the movie Monster Squad, also written by Shane Black (who wrote Iron Man 3) called E.J., which makes a rather convincing case that Shane Black was once bullied by somebody with either that name or those initials.
