6 Movie Franchises That Were Saved By A Reboot (And 6 That Were Doomed)

8. Doomed: Terminator (Twice)

Terminator: Dark Fate is scheduled to hit theaters on November 1st of this year, marking the third reboot of the franchise in a decade. What's the definition of insanity again?

In all honesty, the series is long past its sell-by date at this stage. It has been twenty-eight years since the last decent Terminator movie (and that one is a stone-cold classic), but Hollywood is increasingly reluctant to put a potentially-profitable IP out to pasture for good.

Terminator Salvation promised fans the future-set war movie they had been desperate to see, but despite a couple of decent action beats, McG's sepia-toned shambles disappointed critics and is arguably best remembered for Christian Bale's infamous on-set rant more than anything else.

Not to be dissuaded, Terminator Genisys rebooted the franchise again and then proceeded to f**k up the timeline even more, reveal its big twist in all of the marketing materials, and have charisma-free leads Emilia Clarke and Jai Courtney re-enact several scenes from the original, which did nothing but remind people of how vastly superior James Cameron's first two instalments are to anything that has came since.

Will Dark Fate finally manage to stop the rot that has blighted the Terminator brand for almost 30 years? Maybe. James Cameron and Linda Hamilton have returned to the franchise that made them famous, but after being burned by three Terminator movies in a row the fans have every right to be sceptical.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
