6 Movie Franchises That Were Saved By A Reboot (And 6 That Were Doomed)

7. Doomed: Fantastic Four

Enough has been written about the spectacular and hugely fascinating failure of Josh Trank's Fantastic Four reboot that this entry will be kept relatively brief. Wikipedia's brief synopsis of reaction to the movie sums things up in a way that is so deadpan that it's really quite hilarious:

"The film was universally panned upon its release, with criticism aimed at its screenplay, direction, lack of humor, gloomy tone, unfaithfulness to its source material, visual effects, choppy editing, lack of dynamic between the main characters, and pacing."

So pretty much everything a movie needs to be a success, then?

Hot off the success of Chronicle, fans were genuinely excited to see rising star Trank's take on the material, but the end result made Tim Story's two Fantastic Four movies from the previous decade look like Batman Begins and The Dark Knight by comparison. Not only did it kill any hopes the franchise had of making it, but it also seriously put the brakes on the filmmaker's entire career.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
