6 Movies That Would Be Way More Awesome With Superman
3. Mars Attacks
Mars Attacks was a pretty bizarre licence to base a film off of, as a collection of trading cards featuring gory scenes of extraterrestrial invasion and zero cohesive plot meant its adaptation didn't exactly jive with audiences. But as we later learned, everything from "versus" movies to tentpole superhero team-ups have benefited at the box office from the combination of multiple characters and continuities. So why not add whatever marquee value the Mars Attacks name supposedly has to an alien invasion story featuring an alien defender of Earth? Heck, Superman battles random threats from outer space all the time in the comics! And who needs a big-name villain when you can have a whole army of massively deadly and increasingly creative war machines to toss at the guy? Because if there's one thing that both the Topps trading cards and the movie cobbled together from them did right it was visually spectacular destruction. Bonus points: Combining the obvious inspirations of Mars Attacks and the long history of DC Comics' first superhero, it wouldn't be that crazy to make this one a period-piece set in the origin point of B-movie sci-fi, the 1950s. How's that for a bold take?
