6 Ups & 7 Downs From Independence Day: Resurgence

1. It's As Cheesy As You'd Hope For

For all of the film's flaws, it does feel like an Independence Day film in so far as reveling in its own cheese factor. The original is a cheese classic, and though the sequel is inferior in almost every way, it'll still have you cackling with laughter at the ridiculous one-liners and outrageously earnest tone.

Anything different would feel like a betrayal of the original, and so it's a relief that the film didn't opt to go gritty and serious. It's hilariously daft throughout, even if the filmmakers don't always seem in on the joke, and you may find yourself laughing at the film as much as you do with it.
