One of 2013's many horror flicks, Mama tells the story of a Victoria and Lilly, a pair of sisters who were taken care of in a deserted cabin in some creepy woods by an unknown entity following a car crash. 'Mama' turns out to be the spirit of a woman who threw herself off a cliff, along with her young baby, so they could both die together. However, on the plummet towards the rocks below, the baby's blanket is snagged on a tree branch (there's always something isn't there?) and the baby survives, leaving the mother to wander the afterlife searching for another baby. After a series of events where Mama becomes more and more protective of the girls, we learn her story and arrive at a final showdown between the girls' uncle and partner, and Mama herself on the very same cliff top she threw herself from. After fighting with the spirit, Victoria is safe but Lilly is in the clutches of Mama, in mid-air above the cliff face. Victoria calls out to her sister to come back, but Lilly, who is only about 3 years old, wants her to join them. The death itself isn't gory or gruesome, but it seriously freaked me out the young girl doesn't really understand what she's doing, and that to stay with the only parent she remembers is to die, it's really disturbing. The movie itself isn't great, and I'm not really a fan of the horror genre either, but this death stuck with me long after the movie ended.
