7 Actors Whose Film Careers Went Downhill After Winning An Oscar
6. Adrien Brody
Oscar Win: Best Actor, The Pianist, 2003 Similar to Mira Sorvino in my actresses list, Adrien Brody's Oscar win seemed to have come out of nowhere. Consider the actors he was up against: Jack Nicholson, Nicolas Cage, Daniel Day-Lewis, and Michael Caine. How did he pull off such an upset? Well, if you've seen his performance in The Pianist, you probably understand why. Brody was amazing in the film. But like with Mira Sorvino, winning an Oscar did not automatically guarantee Adrien Brody a slot in the A-list. His choice in movie roles immediately after The Village, The Jacket, King Kong led to mixed results. Even when he worked with well-respected filmmakers, such as Wes Anderson and Rian Johnson, Brody's performances never seem to attract much attention. There just seems to be very little excitement surrounding Brody's career, despite his earnest attempts to appear in quality films. Luckily, despite winning his Oscar over ten years ago, Adrien Brody is barely over the age of 40. He still has many opportunities ahead of him. Establishing a positive relationship with Wes Anderson is also a positive sign as he seems to fit in nicely within Anderson's cinematic worldview. Will he ever become a household name? That remains to be seen, but he definitely has more great performances left in him.
