7 Classics From The 1980s That Surprisingly Weren't Big At The Box Office

7. Wall Streetwall street "Greed, for lack of a better word, is good." Not only is that one of the most misquoted movie lines of all time, but it is also instantly recognizable. Wall Street was the movie that encompased the no-scruples, big-business ways of the 80s. It was a water cooler movie, right? Everyone talked about how close to home it hit. After all, it was successful enough for producers to make a sequel 23 years later! When it was released in 1987, it took in $43.8 million (worth $91 million today). Not bad, it seems, until we see that it made less than Jaws 3-D, La Bamba, and The Gods Must Be Crazy. That's right. Lou Gosset, Jr., Lou Diamond Phillips, and a Coke bottle brought more people to the theaters than Gordon Gecko. The recent movie that performed as well as Wall Street? The rom-com Think Like A Man. Yes, I had to look it up, too.

I like to be thought of as well rounded in my nerdom. Film, sports, geocaching, podcasting and board games all tickle my fancy. When it comes to movies, I like to look at older films and compare eras.
