7 Horror Movies Where Scientists Are To Blame For Everything

1. Re-Animator

Herbert West Reanimator
Empire Pictures

Re-Animator might well be the reason why Jeffrey Comb’s unmistakable face always rings a bell when you see him in the big screen. A piece defined by a subtle balance between horror and humor, this movie is somewhat based on the story Herbert West- Reanimator, written by the big grandpapi of scares and spooks, Howard Phillips Lovecraft.

In this film, Herbert West transfers to fictional Miskatonic University’s medical school (New England), after fleeing from Switzerland under mysterious circumstances. West is a talented and avant-garde scientist, whose ambition and aspirations lead him to defy the established power dynamic that takes place in Miskatonic. He is a rebel, a revolutionary. And he has the research to prove it.

Oh, yes, Mr. West is interested in death. More specifically, he’s haunted by the obsession of reverting the effects of physical and chemical death in the human body. His final goal: restoring life. Even if the resurrected come back unleashed and almost rabid.

A theme that has been explored in other films and lores (such as Stephen King’s Pet Sematary or the hideous Frankensteinian monster), the idea of bringing the dead back to our world is an intriguing possibility that has baffled and driven scientists to insanity since the days of cauldrons and magic potions.

If you could bring back a loved one, a dear missed presence, would you do it? Yeah, most likely. You wouldn’t even think of the consequences, so give poor Herbert a little break. He just got carried away, that’s all. It could happen to anyone, even to you.
