5. The Story
So, we know when Wonder Woman will take place and who she'll be squaring off against, but what direction will her first big screen solo adventure take? Well, the basic premise will be that Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor (played by Star Trek's Chris Pine) will be teaming up in the present day to battle Circe. Her big plan is to manipulate men in high level government positions to star World War III at the behest of Ares. This is where those possible flashbacks will come in, as Wonder Woman will explain to Steve about her first battle with Ares way back in WWI when she stopped him. The God of War is clearly returning here hungry for revenge and desperate to throw Earth back into conflict, and this is an undeniably interesting direction to take things in. However, there's a lot of questions which haven't been answered by these vague plot details. Is Wonder Woman a myth in the DC Extended Universe or is it common knowledge that she played some sort of role in World War I? Has she been in hiding for years, only for the events of this movie and Batman v Superman to pull her back into the world where she's seemingly been living undercover as Diana Prince? That all remains to be seen, but one of the best reveals here is the fact that Steve Trevor will be around in the present day rather than the one to discover Wonder Woman on Paradise Island back in WWI. That would have obviously greatly restricted Pine's role in these movies moving forward, and it now wouldn't be surprising to see him show up in Justice League if that team's recent comic book adventures are any indication.
