6. Master Shifu - Kung Fu Panda
Kung Fu Panda is one of those movies set in a world where animals can talk, fight each other and fall in love with members of a different species. Despite the fact that it's not from Pixar and Jack Black provides the voice of the main character,
Panda remains relatively enjoyable, albeit somewhat forgettable. The plot itself concerns Black's character, Po the panda, who is obsessed with kung-fu, despite the fact that he's awful at it (he's fat, basically). The story gets into gear, though, when Master Shifu, the red panda who will later attempt to train Po, receives warning that his old student, Tai Lung (a nasty snow leopard), is going to break out of jail and return to the Valley of Peace to horribly murder everyone. To counteract this, Master Shifu sends out his messenger, a goose named Zeng, to prevent Tai Lung from escaping. So far so good, right? Shifu has his back covered, at least, yeah? Um, no. Not at all. When Zeng arrives at the prison, Tai Lung
uses one of the goose's feathers to pick the lock of his cell and escapes. That's it. That's how Tai Lung gets out, arrives in the Valley of Peace, and begins unleashing horribly-rendered "nerve strike" on everyone, just 'cause. Thing is, Master Shifu, who is supposed to be great and wise and powerful, inadvertently breaks the world's most notorious criminal out of jail by means of trying to prevent his escape. If Shifu had simply opted for another option - such as sitting in a corner and staring at a wall - Tai Lung would have never been able to break free. And what's with the half-assed effort, anyway? Sending a messenger goose to deal with something as important as the world's worst bad guy? Why not send somebody good, who can at least fight? Oddly, Shifu seems genuinely surprised when he finds out what's happened. It was you, dumbass! You did it!
