7 Movies That Will Probably Happen After 2018 Successes
3. The Cat In The Hat Animated Reboot
The 2018 Success: The Grinch
No matter how bad it was, Illumination's The Grinch was always going to do well. An easy-to-watch, family Christmas movie - released when everyone is getting into the festive spirit - from the makers of Despicable Me, Minions, and The Secret Life Of Pets? Yeah, take that one to the bank.
The movie itself isn't great, but it's fun to watch, which is the only thing it really needed to do. It also made a ton of money in its opening weekend, once again proving that animated Dr. Seuss adaptations - if done right - can hit it big, after Horton Hears A Who and The Lorax also enjoyed massive commercial success.
All of this means that the next Seuss book to receive the animated treatment is... sort of a no-brainer, really: with the poorly-received Mike Myers version now 15 years old, the time is ripe for a new adaptation of The Cat In The Hat.
Illumination actually announced a movie based on this property back in 2012, but the project went quiet shortly after. More recently, Warner Animation Group struck a deal with Dr. Seuss Enterprises to produce a string of Seuss adaptations, including The Cat In The Hat. That was in January, but again, all has gone quiet.
Though looking at The Grinch's box-office numbers, expect that project to be punted into overdrive quite soon.
