7 Pixar Movies Better Than Toy Story 4
2. Inside Out
This dense, and at times complex exploration of the human mind proves, that like Coco, Pixar can take the most challenging of subjects and make it a hell of a lot of fun.
More impressive than how fun it all feels is the fact that Inside Out had the difficult task of taking singular emotions and making them 3D characters with believable character arcs. Somehow they achieve it and make them as real and multi-facetted as the humans they inhabit, whilst never losing focus on what specific emotion they are.
But Inside Out is more than just a big therapy session is disguise. It is one of Pixar’s most idea-flooded and exciting features it has ever released. It is almost brimming with too many ideas, with enough material in here for multiple films. The dream section of the brain could be a film entirely about dream worlds. Or the idea of memories and how these are formed or lost could also lend its self to its own narrative.
However, Pixar juggles all of the ideas here with such care that none of them ever fall flat or feel under-cooked in ways that they do in Toy Story 4, which although tackling many complex existential ideas, doesn't land them anywhere near as seamlessly as they do here.
