7 Reasons Ben Affleck Will Be The Best Movie Batman
7. His Batman Is A Fresh Take On A Well Established Character (And Suits Him Way Better)
Throughout the cinematic history of the Dark Knight, we've been offered up the same basic story; Gotham City is a corrupt hell-hole of a place to live, balancing on a knife edge with its rampant crime rate. A brooding and mysterious vigilante begins to tackle the problem head on, much to the chagrin of the Gotham City Police Department and instills fear in the ones that prey on the fearful. It's the basic story outline of Tim Burton's 'Batman' and similarly Nolan's 'Batman Begins'. Sure he has become an established, albeit fragile ally to the police by the time 'Batman Returns' and 'The Dark Knight' roll around, but audiences were always given the same basic premise; a new and young Dark Knight at the beginning of his crimefighting career. With Batman vs. Superman however, we are presented with a well established Caped Crusader. Affleck is playing the Batman appropriate for his age; a grizzled veteran with years of battle under his belt, and probably experienced enough to lament his decision to don the cowl and fight crime in the first place (More on that later). As an audience, this is something we've never seen on screen before; a well defined and already feared Batman who still makes the criminals of Gotham City think twice about walking out at night, they don't think he's out there - they KNOW he's out there. The idea that he is also racked with guilt over the choices that have been made during his tenure as Gotham's protector. adds a new edge to an already well established character, and Affleck pulls it off magnificently.
