7 Things Movies Try To Convince You Are Normal In Real Life

6. People Don't Say Goodbye On The Telephone

This is just about the one extremely unforgivable trait that all movie characters share. Though it seems kind of petty to pick up on such a minor point, saying goodbye on the telephone is about as old as... well, the telephone. And that thing was invented in the mid-1870s when people were still rude and farting in public. When faced with a telephone call of any kind at all, a movie character will just shut down the conversation when crucial information has been passed over. They'll just assume that the other character has finished what they're saying and will hang up with a look on their face that usually means: "Oh, man. Now I have to do something." But how do they know the call has ended? Nobody said anything about the conversation ending, movie character! Even more frustrating is the fact that these characters look as if they want to say goodbye, as if just hanging up without saying something is completely unnatural to them. We know that "Goodbye" and "See you" aren't exactly Shakespearean in their execution, but they feel right, dammit, and that's what counts. Except if you're a serial killer. Then you can whisper your list of demands and just hang up.
