7 'Unadaptable' Comic Book Storylines (That Are Already Becoming Movies)
1. Some Kind Of Crisis
Despite producing three stinkers in their efforts to establish a rival to the MCU, DC found critical success earlier this year with Wonder Woman, which also went onto become a darling at the box office too. Things are looking quite good, then, for this November's Justice League, even if expectations have been tempered somewhat by how quickly everything has come together.
In the latest trailer for the film, however, were some red skies. Red skies, as you may remember, were a common feature of Batman: The Animated Series, and, apart from dominating that show's gothic aesthetic, they're probably more famous for being the universal indicator for something dreadful happening in the DCU; as in, crisis-level dreadful. We're talking about Crisis.
There have been quite a few Crises since 1985's original Crisis on Infinite Earths, and all present their own challenge in being adapted for the big screen. Final Crisis - while being amazing in just about every way - just can't be done, and Infinite Crisis just shouldn't be done. That leaves the 1985 original, which probably won't be getting an adaptation anytime soon, but it's clear that Justice League will be presenting a spin on any one of these stories, perhaps with the intent of (like Flashpoint) fundamentally altering the burgeoning continuity of the DCEU.
It's muddled, and confusing, to say the very least. And while the presence of those red skies is a neat thing for DC's diehards to gawk at and enjoy, it's probably for the best that DC keep them as a nice homage to the company's history. Anything else just couldn't work on the big screen.
