Taika Waititi directed one of the most unique MCU movies to date, Thor: Ragnorak. The film was a refreshing and humorous instalment, especially after the disappointing Thor: The Dark World. The film was colourful and wacky, introducing a funny Thor into the MCU. Waititi is signed on to direct Thor: Love and Thunder too.

However, three years before Ragnorak thrust Waititi into the public eye, he released the heartwarming Hunt For The Wilderpeople. The story followed Ricky, a wayward youth offender who went to live at a foster home. After his 'Auntie' passed away, he decided to run away, prompting grumpy outback explorer, Hector, to go out and find him.

The story is a hilarious and homely adventure through the New Zealand bush with Hector teaching Ricky the keys of survival. Watching their relationship develop from enemies, to friends, to a father/son bond is an enriching experience for the audience. It is a tremendous story of adoption and paternity with hilarious characters and an engaging plot.

Hunt For The Wilderpeople only had a short U.S release time and was mainly distributed in its native New Zealand. The movie is a hidden gem made in signature Waititi style that sadly slipped under the radar.

Just plain, old sat at a computer with a head full of knowledge I mostly don't use I was born and raised in the Black Country near Birmingham, England however am now living in Manchester, England after I moved here two years ago. I currently attend the University of Salford, studying Broadcast Journalism. That's it really. Told you there was nothing special. If you're really that desperate for something to do, follow me on socials. Yes, I do like that ego boost.
