8 Actors Who Spoiled The Endings To Their Own Work

5. Anne Hathaway Helps David Letterman Spoil The Dark Knight Rises

Poor Anne Hathaway: this wasn't really her fault. Well, not all her fault, anyway. In a lively little chat with David Letterman on his (former) late night show, Hathaway and Letterman started digging into her then-upcoming role in the summer blockbuster, The Dark Knight Rises. Dave heaped praise on the film before telling everyone that "Of course, Batman is dead in the end." Hathaway completely froze. Knowing this isn't technically what happens at the climax (though one could argue that the alter ego of Batman does indeed ride off into the sunset), that's still a very tense moment to deal with, tiptoeing around the ending of one of the biggest movies of the decade. She nervously derides Letterman for the reveal until he laughed it off and reassured everyone that he was lying, and that Bruce Wayne does not die at the end. At this point Hathaway loses it, apologizing to director Christopher Nolan on camera and trying to distance herself from the ensuing wrath as much as possible. In a way, her awkward handling of the situation helped reveal two parts of the ending: That Batman is gone but Bruce Wayne lives on.
