8 Amazing 2016 Films You've Already Missed
6. High-Rise
Every time English director Ben Wheatley releases a film it's worth keeping an eye on, and High-Rise (which is an adaptation of the J.G. Ballard novel of the same name) is no exception. Yet despite his critically acclaimed output, Wheatley remains a director without huge commercial draw, and so you're likely to have missed High-Rise's release entirely.
Featuring a great cast including Tom Hiddleston, Jeremy Irons, Sienna Miller and Luke Evans, the story centres on Hiddleston's character Robert Laing who moves in to an apartment filled with a wide cast of unique high society types. What initially appears to be the height of luxury soon reveals its cracks, and a social hierarchy develops, which ultimately culminates in a literal class war.
The film has everything from humour to gorgeous cinematography to biting social commentary, and the performances throughout (especially Hiddleston's terrific turn as Laing) are some of the best you'll watch this year.
