8 Annoying Comic Book Movie Trends That Must Die In 2017
1. Trailers That Spoil Absolutely Everything
How have we not moved on from this point? Why, in 2017, do I still feel obliged to include an entry on this list concerning comic book movie trailers that are outright jam-packed with spoilers? This is still a problem?
The latest culprit, of course, is Spider-Man: Homecoming, which wasn't so much a trailer as it was a short film version of the full movie. It's strange, given that Marvel must know that this picture is going to make a ton of money regardless of whether they outline the entire plot in the trailer. Dude, it's Spider-Man and Iron Man in one freakin' movie: you've sold it to us, your job is done.
There are so many pivotal plot moments hinted at in the aforementioned trailer, though, that it could actually have the opposite effect. It could stop people from going to see the film in cinemas because they're already familiar with the major beats of the story, so what's the point?
Homecoming is just another in a long line of comic book movie trailers that exposes way too much information, like Civil War, Batman v Superman, and Suicide Squad before it. Here's hoping that the backlash that met this trailer has put a nail in the trend once and for all.
Let this be the last trailer of its kind.
