8 Big Questions About The Future Of DC Film Universe

What'll happen if Wonder Woman is terrible?

The DC Extended Universe has hardly got off to the most acclaimed of starts, but three movies in, Warner Bros' cinematic plans for their diverse superhero roster are still very much moving forward.

And regardless of your opinion on the studio's trio of comic-book adaptations that have hit our screens thus far, it's hard not to get excited when you know there's a freaking Justice League movie coming out next year, even if you've been let down by the DCEU before.

And part of that excitement comes from having certain questions answered. And new questions posed. Like the next episode in a TV show, the cinematic universe format thrives on speculation, discussion and theorizing, and that's part of the reason why we head to the movie theatre consistently - even if we didn't like the last one.

The DCEU is still rather young, and as such, there's a lot we don't yet know, or understand. So, from queries about certain characters to queries about specific movies and plot points, here are eight big questions about the future of the DCEU...

8. Will A Batman V Joker Movie Ever Happen?

From West to Keaton to Conroy to Bale, every major Batman incarnation has faced off against the Joker at one point or another. These are always the most memorable of stories, too, given the electric nature of the villain, but in the DCEU, nothing of the sort has yet been hinted at.

And that's pretty odd. Why hire a heavy-hitter like Jared Leto if you're not going to give him the meatiest of stories to tackle? The Joker can hardly go toe-to-toe with Superman, or Wonder Woman, or The Flash, so if he's not pitted against the Dark Knight, will the character be relegated to minor roles in Suicide Squad sequels? It seems odd to waste the character in this way.

We know that Ben Affleck's solo Bat-flick will feature villain Deathstroke (leaving little room for the Joker), and that's rumoured to be coming out in 2018, so we've got a minimum of two years to wait before a Batman/Joker movie can even start being developed.

That same Batman movie is also rumoured to feature multiple Bat-villains in small roles, so a future movie featuring the Clown Prince could be teased here - but aside from this, it looks like DC's focus is firmly on building its heroes (the Suicide Squad included) and the Joker won't be as integral to the DCEU as he has been to other Batman iterations.
