8 Big Questions About The Future Of DC Film Universe

1. What Sort Of Role Will Lex Luthor Play?

Batman v Superman Lex Luthor

Since Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor has been confirmed to appear in Justice League, we know that he's got a bigger role than his incarceration at the end of BvS would indicate.

So far, we know that Luthor was communicating with Steppenwolf, Darkseid's general, via the technology found on the Kryptonian ship. This, in turn, led Luthor to 'invite' Darkseid to Earth, which explains his final conversation with Batman ("the bell's already been rung. And they've heard it") inside the prison.

Luthor's gone crazy; unable to defeat the various metahumans he keeps on file, he's turned to the demons and devils who "come from the sky". But what can he offer such powerful beings? How can he be of use to Darkseid, a planet-wrecking destructive beast?

The answer could lie in Luthor's smarts, and resources. He's a skilled engineer (evidenced by him creating Doomsday), and it's odd that Steppenwolf would show him the Mother Boxes, during the deleted scene 'Communion'. Does Darkseid need Luthor to build these Mother Boxes? Are these part of Darkeid's plan?

We know they're involved in Cyborg's origin, and consequently, their power is immense. Whatever Darkseid has in store for Earth, the boxes are surely to play a key role - and that's probably where Luthor comes in.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
