8 Biggest Casting Mistakes In 2016's Superhero Movies

5. Ed Skrein As Ajax

As with Deadpool, I again almost feel a little guilty for including Ed Skrein here. His passion for Ajax in interviews comes across as being very genuine and sincere, but if that recent Transporter reboot proved anything, it's that the attempts to turn this Game of Thrones alum into a leading man is proving to be something of a failed experiment. However, the biggest issue here is that a movie like Deadpool (especially with Ryan Reynolds as the lead) needed a big name star to play the villain. While the movie's budget was fairly low due to it being R-Rated, Fox missed a trick here by not bringing in some familiar faces to round out the cast, especially as that worked so well for Kingsman: The Secret Service last year. Seeing as this version of Ajax appears to share very little in common with his comic book counterpart, maybe Skrein will fit the role like a glove, but there's no getting around the fact that pitting Reynolds against a more established name could have had a lot more interesting results and ultimately been the best thing for what so many hope is the first instalment in a new superhero movie franchise.
