8 Biggest Casting Mistakes In 2016's Superhero Movies
4. Jared Leto As The Joker
The decision to cast Jared Leto as The Joker was pretty well received until the first official image was released, especially after the actor's Oscar winning performance in Dallas Buyers Club. Judging a book by its cover is never smart (the reaction to the first stills of Heath Ledger as the Clown Prince of Crime were received just as poorly several years ago), so why then is Leto the wrong choice for the new Joker? In all honesty, it might just come down to the fact that he's taking the villain in too weird a direction. The tattoos and teeth aside, Leto's performance is clearly going to be even further removed from the comic books than Ledger's was, and that's not a good thing, especially as the majority of comic book fans are desperate to finally see The Joker from the source material. You know, more The Killing Joke and less yet another drastic reinvention that, while still potentially great, isn't going to live up to expectations. While it may seem unfair to blame Leto for what appears to be a decision made by Warner Bros. and Suicide Squad director David Ayer, the actor has clearly had a lot of input into this portrayal, hence why he's been getting into character and behaving so bizarrely on set. Casting The Joker is always tough, but there are a long list of actors who could have no doubt delivered a much more authentic take on the character.
