8 Biggest Casting Mistakes In 2016's Superhero Movies
3. Channing Tatum As Gambit
Channing Tatum still gets a pretty bad rap among some, but I for one think the actor has really turned a corner with movies like Magic Mike, Jump Street, and Foxcatcher (let's all just pretend that Jupiter Ascending never happened). However, despite all of that, the prospect of him playing Gambit next year - if the movie still manages to meet that release date - isn't even remotely exciting. Edge of Tomorrow's Doug Liman being at the helm is pretty cool, but the decision to cast Tatum was made for all the wrong reasons. Lauren Shuler Donner only went after the actor because he mentioned his interest in the character in a random interview, and you need only look at any superhero movie site to see comments sections littered with suggestions for Gambit which are infinitely better than Tatum. He just doesn't fit the role in any way, and the thought of him hamming it up for two hours with a dodgy Cajun accent brings back memories of flops like G.I. Joe rather than any of the much better projects he's done which are listed above. A Gambit movie is a lame enough idea as it is, but throwing Tatum into the mix feels like an ill advised decision which will massively backfire on Fox as they look for a member of the X-Men who can be their next Wolverine as Hugh Jackman looks to hang up the claws for good in 2017.
