6. It Will Be Delayed And Reworked - Godzilla Vs. Kong

Even though the excitement for Godzilla: King of the Monsters was palpable before its release, when the film finally landed... it didn't do as well as people had hoped.

With a rotten score on Rotten Tomatoes and a sub-$400 million worldwide gross, it's the worst-performing entry in Warner Bros' MonsterVerse (which includes 2014's Godzilla and 2017's Kong: Skull Island) by every important metric, hardly an ideal scenario for an expensive sequel that was meant to help grow the franchise.

Even worse, this rough patch cast a little bit of a shadow over the upcoming Godzilla vs. Kong, which is currently set for a March 2020 release. Will the sequel be affected by the middling response to King of the Monsters? Or will it soldier on as planned?

Well, according to industry whispers, the beastly showdown may suffer a delay so that it can be shaped into as good a movie as possible. Earlier this year, Deadline quoted Warner Bros studio chairman Toby Emmerich, who stated that Godzilla vs. Kong "might come out later in the year", so that it can be brought up to scratch.

This obviously implies that some major reshoots may also take place - if they haven't already. However, since Emmerich's initial comment, the movie has held its release date, so the whole idea of a delay has drifted into rumour territory.

It could still come out in March, certainly - but the fact that we haven't seen any marketing yet doesn't exactly paint a healthy picture.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
