8 Great Characters Sony's Marvel Movies Have Completely Screwed Up

8. Doctor Octopus

Spider-Man 2 is hailed as one of the greatest comic book movies of all-time, and while Doctor Octopus was an effective villain, his transition from the comics could and should have been handled better. Alfred Molina was tremendous, but he wasn't the pudgy and sadistic scientist desperate for power. Instead, he was pretty much just the innocent victim of an accident who ended up being mentally controlled by his four extra arms. While this Otto Octavius was far from innocent, the fact he was given an excuse for his actions completely removed his most important personalty trait; his ego. Depicting him as a mentally unstable scientist desperate to perform an experiment ended up making him frustratingly generic as an antagonist, and his hatred for Spider-Man didn't feel genuine as a result. Ock ultimately sacrificing himself for the hero was another misfire.
