8 Hopelessly Tangled Movie Continuities
2. The James Bond Series

By now any Bond fans out there will know the codename theory; this is the idea that James Bond is a code assigned to MI6s top agent, which explains why he periodically changes appearance and personality. This would be a neat explanation if the filmmakers intended it, but its clear from looking at the movies they didnt.
The series has always played it loose with continuity, but some fans still try futilely to piece it together. Yet theres no getting around issues like Bond not recognising Blofeld in On Her Majestys Secret Service, despite facing him in the previous movie. OHMSS also references previous Bond adventures, so it cant even use the prequel defence.
Die Another Day from 2002 has a scene where Bond revisits some of his old gadgets, meaning all the previous adventures are canon; if this is the case, though, that should make Bond at least seventy years old. Things get muddied further with the Craig era; it was supposed to be a soft reboot yet Judi Denchs M remained, despite playing the character during the Brosnan years.
So basically it doesnt link together neatly, but its best not to linger on this; the producers certainly didnt.
