8 Horror Movie Fan Theories That Make The Films Even Creepier

6.The Boy Is Sacrificed To Save Everyone Else -The Mist

The movie based on Stephen King's The Mist is actually a pretty straightforward disaster/monster movie. A group of people, including our main protagonist David, are stuck inside a grocery store after a thick mist envelops everything around them. A squid-like creature starts picking them off one by one while they struggle to even see it.

One of the patrons, a religious zealot who proclaims herself an authority on God's will, believes this to be a sure sign of the End Times. As tensions grow, the woman concludes that God requires a sacrifice to save them from the evil surrounding them, and picks out David's son as the sacrificial lamb. When she tries to make that happen, David kills her.

The Theory: Unfortunately, it seems the "crazy religious lady" was right. After a last-ditch effort to escape the mist goes awry, everyone decides that survival is futile, and it's only a matter of time until the creature gets to each and every one of them. To spare them the pain, David shoots them all, including his own son. But immediately after he does this, the fog lifts and the military comes to rescue the survivors.

Boy, talk about bad timing, right? Well, actually, God only lifted the fog because David finally "sacrificed" his son, whether he realized it or not. If he'd shot his boy straightaway, the fog would have lifted sooner. Likewise, if he and his son had waited it out with the group, they would have continued being picked apart a while longer.

The fog didn't lift "too late." It lifted only when it was allowed to.
