Aronofsky's Batman: Year One Year One is one of the most beloved Batman stories of all time, showing how the caped crusader initially returned to Gotham after years of soul-searching, and became the Dark Knight we all know and love. The movie adaptation, written by Frank Miller and set to be directed by Darren Aronofsky, evidently was not meant to include much of that story at all, instead going with a Batman that was more... Homeless. Alfred was cast in that version as a mechanic in inner-city Gotham (who went by Big Al), and Batmobile was nothing more than an enhanced Lincoln Continental. As odd as all of that sounds, the concept art which was released earlier this year, does look pretty cool. The most interesting thing about the costume designs is, in my mind, the absolute absence of sculpted muscles! Whereas the Burton/Schumacher designs have all featured muscles that were built into the suit to make up for the actors' physique, and the Nolan suit uses armor strategically placed to resemble and accentuate muscle structure, these are either form-fitting in the manner used in the comics, or actually obscuring Caped Crusader's brawn.
