7. Tyler Durden's Facebook - The Social Network

For those of you who thought Tyler Durden was far too cool to have a Facebook account, think again. Well, sort of. This little in-joke in
The Social Network makes a neat little reference to the
Fight Club character famously embodied by Brad Pitt, given that both movies were directed by master filmmaker David Fincher, and Fincher can do whatever he likes. The joke? During the scene when Mark Zuckerberg is explaining to his friend Eduardo that he set-up a fake Facebook account, you can briefly see that our computer genius is logged in as "Tyler Durden." Interestingly enough, Zuckerberg himself once cited
Fight Club as one of his favourite movies in an interview, which means that - in the context of the movie, at least - the character could have
actually decided to use this alias in real-life, given his genuine affinity for the movie. As in, the fictional version of Zuckerberg could have ea used Tyler's name in the sense that it wasn't an in-joke, and just something he did 'cause he likes the movie. This is getting away too meta for my liking, and I don't really understand my own point. It's, uh, there somewhere.
