8. Aquaman's Surprising Suicide Squad Role

Surprisingly, Aquaman is the only member of the Justice League (besides Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman) to have been featured in his own official character image so far. Whether more reveals are on the way or Zack Snyder is keeping the likes of The Flash and Cyborg a surprise for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice remains to be seen, but Jason Momoa's rugged take on the King of Atlantis has certainly had fans talking about this unexpected take on the often widely ridiculed hero. However, just because we know what he'll look like, don't expect to see much of him in Batman v Superman if one rumour is to be believed. Apparently, his cameo will consist of little more than an appearance on a computer monitor when Batman breaks into LexCorp. There, the Caped Crusader will see Aquaman, "held prisoner in a containment chamber where we see his hand slap against the glass." Sounds like a waste, right? Well, another report points to this having something to do with Suicide Squad. The events of that reportedly take place before Batman v Superman, and Aquaman will be depicted there as being a prisoner of Task Force X leader Amanda Waller. She's apparently experimenting on him after capturing both Aquaman and the villainous King Shark at the end of a hard fought battle which left them both easy targets to be scooped up by A.R.G.U.S. While this all makes sense on the one hand (for starters, it potentially offers a clue as to why Lex Luthor is going to show up in Suicide Squad), it doesn't explain how and when Aquaman is going to break out to join the Justice League. Will that happen in the 2017 superhero ensemble - making it an awkward subplot to try and shoehorn in - or one of Warner Bros.' 2016 DC Comics movies? Whatever the answer may or may not be, if this one is true, Aquaman's role in the DC Extended Universe looks set to get off to a very unexpected start!
