8 Insane Marvel Phase 3 Rumours You Need To See To Believe

4. Angelina Jolie Will Direct Captain Marvel

Rumour has it that Marvel wants a female filmmaker at the helm of Captain Marvel. They've already hired two women to write the movie - Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Meg LeFauve (Inside Out) - so that makes sense, and it would be a first for the studio after they parted ways with Patty Jenkins on Thor: The Dark World and Ava DuVernay passed on Black Panther. Who they're eyeing for Captain Marvel both is and isn't a surprise. According to OK! Magazine (admittedly not the most reliable source of information), Kevin Feige is keen on the idea of hiring Unbroken helmer Angelina Jolie, and he's so desperate to get her to take charge of this Phase 3 release, she could be looking set to score a whopping $20 million to direct Marvel's first female led superhero movie. The kicker is that she's actually interested in tackling a big budget blockbuster after smaller projects, so if there's any truth at all to this, it could happen. It's not hard to understand why Marvel are willing to pay big bucks to secure the actress turned director. She's done some solid work behind the camera and is a big enough name to bring some much needed attention to a movie revolving around a relatively obscure character. Some fans have suggested that she should also play Captain Marvel, but there's been no word on that from any front. One recent name to crop up is Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation star Rebecca Ferguson, but as Feige has confirmed that we won't be hearing any casting news in regards to the role this year, it could be some time before we hear anything definite about a star or director.
