8 Major New Details Revealed About Star Wars: The Force Awakens

3. Finn And Rey's Last Names Are A Mystery For A Reason

When J.J. Abrams revealed the names of the lead characters in Star Wars: The Force Awakens last year, he chose the unique method of doing so via some mocked up Topps trading cards (a real blast from the past for many fans). However, both Finn (John Boyega) and Rey (Daisy Ridley) stuck out like sore thumbs due to their lack of surnames. All we really know about them both at this point is that Finn is a Stormtrooper in The First Order who abandons his post and meets up with Jakku based scavenger Rey, only for them both to ultimately end up on the Millennium Falcon with some very familiar faces. However, as many of us expected, there's a very good reason why their full names have yet to be revealed. When the magazine asked Abrams if they've been intentionally hidden because they're related to characters we already know, he teased: "I will only say about that that it is completely intentional that their last names aren€™t public record." That's as good as a yes, and it could be that a lot of fan theories are about to come true. While it's somewhat frustrating that Abrams won't spill the beans - is one of these guys a Skywalker/Solo or not?! - the filmmaker emphasised to EW that his secretiveness comes from a good place. "I have read more comments than I ever expected where people say, €˜don€™t spoil it for me, don€™t show me everything, don€™t ruin the story, I don€™t want to know it yet.€™ And I€™m always grateful for that. So it€™s a little bit of a tightrope, and we want to make sure we€™re being forthcoming, but that we€™re not spoiling."
