8 Modern Horrors Ruined By Their Monster Reveal
1. The Babadook
One of the most controversially iconic monsters to come out of the horror genre, The Babadook appeared in cinemas in 2014, following the story of single mother Amelia and her son, who becomes terrified by the monsters that he believes haunt him in every corner. After the death of her husband, Amelia blames herself and struggles to care for her anxious boy, soon discovering that he is telling the truth about a monster that appears out of a mysterious children's book.
The monster haunts the weak mum and child, manifesting to create hallucinations and scary happenings around their home but they cannot seem to get rid of the book which he has given to them.
With nobody else believing them, the two face up to the demon on their own, with the mother facing her worst fears of the trauma within her.
The monster in question, however, is less than scary. Appearing just like the pages in the book, The Babadook wears a top hat and creepy smile but his abnormal features and child like intentions ruin the ending for many. Again, audiences are drawn in with the spooks but the end result is less than satisfying and is almost cause for laughter rather than screams.
