8 Most Disappointing Movie Sequels & Remakes Of 2021
5. Venom: Let There Be Carnage
There are many things that can set off someone's "oh this may not be good" alarm. Occasionally it's the trailer, in the case of Artemis Fowl it was when the casting notice described him as "Warm-hearted". For this, it was the running time. 97 Minutes. The SNES game based on the graphic novel this is inspired by takes longer than that. The original graphic novel itself is also VERY long (to its detriment).
From that alone, it was obvious this wasn't going to have enough time to tell the story and flash out the characters. The film is not helped by the rating; this should be a violent slice of chaos and, well, carnage. Instead, it feels like a neutered dog with no teeth. There's no bite and darkness to it.
Compare it to The Suicide Squad, which was a marvellous piece of superhero violence and nihilism that this film should be. There are some funny moments, sure, but in general, a film about a character like Venom should not be as toothless as this is. That said, the post-credits sequence where he ends up in the same universe as Spider-man: Homecoming is genuinely exciting.
