8 Movie Reviews That Pissed Everyone Off In 2015

4. Anita Sarkeesian Accuses Fury Road Of Not Being Feminist

Anita Sarkeesian is a feminist critic who found herself embroiled in the whole Gamergate mess (the depressing story of which won€™t be repeated here) when she complained about gender stereotypes in videogames, and she's often found herself a target of online abuse. People expected her to love Mad Max: Fury Road though, as the movie contained a whole host of strong women standing up to the oppressive rule of men who treat them like property. And surprisingly, she didn't like it much at all. She took to Twitter to call the movie a glorification of violence, and found it sad that people think a film where women got involved in violence is seen as a strong feminist statement. Alongside the scores of replies €“ from both supporters and distracters €“ that disagreed with her, there were also a number of response articles that explained how she had missed the entire point of Fury Road, and she had dismissed it too harshly. Sarkeesian stands by her original statement though.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
