2. The G-Men - E.T. The Extra Terrestrial (1986)

I spent much of my youth in utter disgust of the government stooges who wanted so desperately to separate Elliot and his alien buddy in Steven Spielberg's seminal classic
E.T. How could they be so blind to E.T.'s obvious good nature? Why don't they just let him stay with Elliot? They're not hurting anyone! Go and spent your time doing something of worth, you dummies! As I grew out of adolescence and became more knowledgable about things like "alien landings" and "the government", I realised that the agents in
E.T. where completely justified in their actions: an alien has landed on the earth, and is living in suburbia and having baths and going out for Halloween like it's the most natural thing in the world. I don't think that's something that should just be "let be," no matter how much of a swell guy E.T. is. Of course, it's a movie about the friendship between a boy and an alien, so the government and its associated agents have no choice but to get short-changed as "bad guys," but when you consider what's happening, they're actually fairly lenient of the situation. In real life, I think a couple of people would have at least been shotgunned to death (the bike flying scene seems like an appropriate point for that to happen). Granted, that all depends on whether they've been re-issued walkie-talkies. Just cut these guys a break, okay? They're trying to protect humanity or something.
