There are shades of Psycho here as Drew Barrymore, the biggest star in the movie at the time of release, is introduced in the first scene as a horror fan alone at home when she gets a phone call from a stranger. They have a flirty chat about their favourite horror movies when things take a sinister turn. The caller then reveals her boyfriend is tied to a chair outside and that he'll kill him if she fails to answer some movie trivia correctly. She fails, the boyfriend is murdered and the killer starts chasing her through the house. Now in the normal sequence of events in this type of film she'd get away and end up being stalked by the killer the entire movie, before having a dramatic showdown at the finale. Well not this time. The killer catches her and she is brutally stabbed to death, with her body left hanging from a tree for her family to find. It's a startling end to a very intense opening and bear in mind, the film just killed the most well known face in the cast and it hasn't even been on 10 minutes. You can now place your bets on who will live to the end.
