8 Movies That Blurred The Line Between Our World And Theirs

5. On_Line

You'd be forgiven for having never heard of On_Line. Beyond its fascinating attempts at creating an immersive experience, the general reception was cold from the off. Critics derided its sleaziness and insubstantial characters before it quickly faded from conversation and into obscurity.

The movie focused on two roommates who create an adult chat site and soon become obsessive over it. The theme seemed to be 'love in the digital age', though the movie quickly dissolves into something akin to a series of short skits. What does warrant talking about, though, is everything outside of the movie.

Following its release, all of the websites featured within became publicly available to visit and partake in. These included a genuinely live 24-hour stream of 'webcam girl' Angel, a video chatroom for strangers to connect in and a video diary hosted by the main character.

This diary continued past the movie's release and updates allowed audiences to continue to keep up with John Roth after the narrative had concluded. Despite its missteps, these ideas would still be exciting today and stand as an example of innovative story-telling that has rarely been recreated.
