8 Reasons 2016 Is The Best Time To Be A Movie Fan

8. It's The Year Video Game Adaptations Are Taken Seriously

The archives of video games-turned-films are riddled with disappointment and sadness. (And multiple failed attempts to make a watchable Street Fighter movie.) Considering the highest performing film in the whole genre is a whitewashed version of Prince of Persia, there's plenty of reasons to think video game adaptations will never catch on at the box office. But not to worry, because salvation may be in sight. Warcraft and Assassin's Creed, two of the biggest franchises in video game history, are being translated to the silver screen in 2016. The thing that excites most about these types of games being adapted is that the filmmakers have majorly expansive storylines to work with. The Warcraft movie isn't going to suffer from the same limitations as Doom or Need For Speed, because those movies were based entirely on name recognition and the hope that people will flock to the theaters because "Hey, I used to play that game!" Now people will flock to the theaters because "Hey, I used to play that game" and "Hey, that looks like an amazing story!" It wouldn't surprise me if Warcraft is already having a full trilogy prepped.
