8 Reasons 2016 Is The Best Time To Be A Movie Fan

6. Netflix Is Producing The Bold Movies Studios Are Too Afraid To Take On

Just as the comic book movie bubble looks to stretch to its fullest capacity, there's another, sneakier category of movies coming up on the horizon that will be hoping to really shake things up: The Netflix Film. This last year saw an unprecedented number of Netflix exclusives hit the streaming service, and the majority of them were freaking incredible. And although Netflix plans to expand its catalogue of original series, documentaries, and comedy specials, they're also beginning to stretch their legs in the realm of feature films. A brief, but promising, list of titles under their big red logo for this year includes a new Pee Wee Herman movie, a new Christopher Guest mockumentary, a sequel to the heavily-awarded Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, a new Ricky Gervais comedy, and most surprisingly, a war movie starring Brad Pitt. Netflix reportedly paid between $30 to $60 million (depending on which "insider" you believe) for the honor of distributing War Machine. The movie, described as "a rip-roaring, behind-the-facade tale of modern war decision-makers, from the corridors of power to the distant regions of America€™s ambitions," marks a notable shift in the types of content that the streaming service is going after.
