8 Reasons We’ve Lost Faith In The Dark Tower

4. The 12A Certificate

Idris Elba Dark Tower

That scene in The Gunslinger where Roland guns down an entire freaking town alone should have been enough to earn The Dark Tower its R-rating, but nope - PG-13, or 12A, if you prefer.

Presumably the film is going to pull a few punches in its depiction of the mass slaughter in Tull, but it's hard to imagine how it will capture the grit and elements of horror in the source material with this ceetificate.

The Dark Tower is supposed to be, well... dark. There's a scene in one of the later books where a group of vampires are devouring a human baby on a rotisserie at a New York restaurant, for goodness sake!

Of course, a PG-13 rating doesn't necessarily mean the movie is going to disappoint. Many of the saga's darkest moments come further down the line, but even a loose Gunslinger adaptation should have been shooting for at least the 15 mark.
